Project Overview
The Wellness Center is a fitness facility designed to accommodate 5,000 students on campus as well as allowing for possible use by the National Guard. The facility houses a nursing evaluation and care center as well as the offices of the Activities Administrator and staff.
The facility is equipped with a collegiate-size basketball court which has sports boundaries and backboards to handle multiple sporting events. Fixed and retractable bleachers can support inter-collegiate competition. A 13-lap, three-lane running/walking track is suspended from the exposed roof structure above the gymnasium. Aerobic, cardio, and weight areas are designed with attention to air handling, varying flooring requirements, sound isolation, and lighting. An east facing roof deck is conceived to attract tai-chi and quiet outdoor programs. Changing rooms, laundry, and shower areas are also sized to accommodate the future population.
The Wellness Center is also home to Tulsa's tallest climbing wall which was installed with movable panels for a variety of terrain and includes auto-belaying devices.
